In a prior post, Principia explored how supplier prices to lumberyards and traditional one-step dealers over time. Exploring the topic from the purview of builders and contractors, specifically focusing on exterior product categories, reveals a similar pattern.

Builders and contractors were asked, “How has the pricing (the price you pay your dealers or retailers) changed in the last 12 months?” Here are the results.

Line chart of builder and contractor-reported price increases for exterior building products, Q3 2024 to Q1 2025. Roofing reached 5.15% and insulation 5.13%.
